Macrolynx broadband: Definitely no threat to streamyx

My ISP sucks. A little background. I am currently staying in an apartment complex in Taman Melati. A few months back i signed up with Macrolynx for their broadband service, because Streaymx was not available in my area (and I was made to believe it will not be made available). Wanting to take advantage of the 1 month discount, i signed up for a 6 months-pay up front deal – where you pay for six month’s service and get one month free. Oh, i signed up for their 1 Mb SDSL service that was adverstised as “fast and reliable”.

It’s now been nearly 3 months since i got their service…. and guess what! it’s not even close to being fast nor reliable. If fast and reliable is the sun, then Macrolynx’s broadband service is somewhere in the region of the ex-planet pluto. Imagine paying for a 1 MB service, and getting a connection speed of 26 kbps. That’s slower than a dial up! and realiability? i can count with one hand the number of times i’ve gotten 7 days of uninterrupted service. Macrolynx’s response everytime i complain about their service? numerous, starting from the very precise “the gateway’s down” to the very nebulous answer of “oh, we’re investigating what’s the problem”. FRUSTRATING would not even begin to describe it!

The only plus point i can say about Macrolynx is the helpdesk guy, Anwar, who’s pretty courteous. But, even courtesy run thin in the face of undelivered promises. I’ve wrote to them asking whether i can cancel my service and get a refund, but no reponse. Thus, this is my last resort. To those folks that live in Taman Melati condo that plan to get Macrolynx : DON’T. Wait for streamyx, at least you’ll get service faster than 50 kbps. I plan to do so once I use up my 6 + 1 months of monthly payment.

Lastly, I do hope someone from Macrolynx reads this and takes the necessary steps to improve the service in Taman Melati/Platinum Victory apartment. Otherwise, do look forward to more posting about the terrible service.

 Cheers

Proud owner of a new TV

Yay! I finally made the decision to buy an LCD TV. Got my self a 32 inch LCD tv from Samsung. It’s awesome! Now I’ve got to decide whether i want to upgrade my current home-theater-in-a-box system to a new one. Currently looking at Pionner HTZ-656DVD and Sony DAV-DZ720 as these are the ones that have HDMI and tall boy speakers. Will have to see…

Avenue K? More like Avenue D (as in dead)

Went to Avenue K yesterday with Lin and Firdaus (my 1.5 year old boy) to look for toys at ToysRUs. It was a disaster! I dare say I will NEVER go to Avenue K or the ToysRUs in Avenue K ever again.

Avenue K

The parking- bad, ultra confusing. It was hard to figure out which way to go, with the sign unclear and the paths definitely winning the most covulted award. Oh, lets not forget narrow!

The mall itself – EMPTY. I only saw 4 ppl who didnt work in the stores – 2 were at ToysRUS and two were the cleaners. The place was dead. Maybe it’s becaue KLCC’s just a stone throw away. And, to continue with bad signs, I spent a full 10 minutes trying to find the rest rooms. I tried following the signs, and they lead me nowhere. literally nowhere. following the signs lead me to a wall with no doors. i was tempted to lean againts the wall and relieve myself there. Fortunately, the 2 cleaners i ran into help me by pointing me to the right direction. my utmost thank you to them. long live avenue K cleaners!

ToysRUs – the place reminds me of the malay saying ‘hidup segan, mati tak mahu’. maybe because it’s situated in such a dead mall, with no traffic, or maybe ToysRUs just don’t attract customers anymore. the family’s planning to check out the ToysRUs outlet at Midvalley this weekened, so i’ll find out whether the answer is the former or the latter.

But, as far as me and my family’s concerned, Avenue K is not worth going to. And to all you folks that plan to go there, i suggest you park at KLCC, take the underground tunnel and have a gander at Avenue K. At least by doing this you’ll save some money by not parking at Avenue K and once you realize you’ve made a mistake by wasting time checking the place out, you can run back to the safety of KLCC.
